Use the arrow keys or WASD to move round the world. Hold down the Space Bar to activate the Drill.
You can perform double jumps to reach higher ground, and also to cover greater distances. The timing of the second jump makes a big difference.
While airborne you can also hold down the jump key in order to slow your descent.
Drill into resources to pick them up. They will automatically be added to your inventory.
Your temperature, fuel reserves, as well as current health, are all displayed at the bottom right of the screen.
Your Map, item capacity as well as the consumables you have available, are all displayed at the bottom left of the screen.
Drilling, as well as going deeper underground, will cause your temperature to rise. If you heat up too much you start taking damage.
Standing still, and giving your drill a break, are both efficient ways of making your temperature go down.
The maximum amount of heat you can withstand, as well as your cooling rate can both be upgraded once you construct an Engineering Bay.
Lava Droplets that fall on you will burn you dealing damage and causing your temperature to rise.
Drilling and moving about will slowly drain your fuel. If it runs out completely, you will be returned to the surface and loose all the resources you had on you.
Overheating, drill vibrations, lava and other environmental hazards will all deal damage causing your health to go down.
You can see what resources you have collected by using the “Items” button at the top of the screen. From here you can also consume raw resources for fuel and repairs.
Resources you have picked up can be deposited at the ship. While your carrying capacity is limited, the ship can hold a virtually endless supply of items.
Your current objectives are displayed at the top left of the screen. Mouse over the icons for further details.
Building Modules to add new functionality to the ship is critical for long-term survival.
Your inventory shows resources you have picked up from the world. You can choose to see all items, or only the ones you currently have from the toggle at the bottom left of the window.
Modules add additional functionality to the ship. Once built they also allow you to craft consumable items.
Lava deposits constantly drip molten rock and cannot be drilled into. Vibrations from drilling around them will cause the droplets to fall more frequently, slowly depleting the lava pocket. Once empty, the pocket can be dug into for Obsidian and any remaining lava.
Two types of gas can be encountered: the green Vespene, and the pink-purplish Amaranthine. A planet may have one or the other, but not both.
Gas itself is harmless and can be collected by digging around the edges of the deposit. The central geyser however will explode if dug into, dealing significant damage. Encountering concentrated gas is a good indication that you are very close to the geyser.
This strange structure is so hard it cannot be drilled into, but it appears to react to vibrations, opening up like a flower to reveal the Aberrant Matter inside. Should the vibrations stop, it will start to permanently close, becoming impenetrable to everything but Dynamite.
This fragile structure contains a Strange Gloop, but it must be approached slowly. Too many vibrations from drilling will cause the Egg to crack, spilling the contents.
These capsules sometimes contain alien artifacts, that can be analyzed by the Research Nexus in order to unlock new recipes. Once open they emit a beam you can ride back to the surface.
The Research Nexus analyzes items and resources you find in the world, and provides you with new Recipes.
Crafting a recipe for the first time will unlock the item it creates, and move the recipe details from the Research tab to the information area of the respective item.
The Research Nexus also keeps track of the alien artifacts you uncover, and lets you listen to their respective story segments.
The Engineering Bay lets you upgrade various sub-components. This improves your abilities significantly, and is crucial to long-term survival.
You can see your current Depth at the top left of the game screen.
You can Travel to other planets via the Galaxy Map button at the top of the screen. But stop by the ship first as items you currently have on you will be lost when changing planets.
The Fuel Can will instantly fill your fuel reserves. Just click on its icon at the bottom left of the screen, when you need it.
The Repair Kit will instantly negate all hull damage you have suffered, restoring you to full health when you click it.
After a short delay, Dynamite will destroy everything in a "plus" pattern around the location where it is placed, even you.
The Teleport Pad can be placed anywhere on the map, by clicking on its icon. Once placed, stand next to it and press Enter.
The Radar Pulse will update your map to reveal all resources and items that can be found on the planet you are currently on.
You have just died. When you die you are automatically returned to the ship, and can continue your journey, but you loose all the resources you had on you.
Volcanic Planets are hotter, and have more lava. Minerals are more frequent on Volcanic planets, but crystals and gas are rare.
Glacial planets are have a very low temperature, but the constant exposure will slowly chip away at your plating. Gas And Crystals are more frequent, but minerals are in shorter supply.
Temperate planets have a good mix of all resources, but a higher frequency of hard rocks.
Nir Class Planets have a higher frequency of Azurite and Titanium, but less Gold and Rubies.
Sin Class Planets have a higher frequency of Gold and Rubies, but less Azurite and Titanium.
Ilt Class Planets have a higher frequency of Emeralds and Silver, but less Amethyst and Iron.
Ern Class Planets have a higher frequency of Iron and Amethyst, but less Silver and Emeralds.
Oln Class Planets have a good mix of all resources.
You are overheating from drilling too much. Give your drill a break to let your heat go down, or you will start taking damage.
You are overheating from the environment. Go back up towards the surface where there is less ambient heat, or you will start taking damage.
Your fuel is very low. Convert some of the items you have collected to fuel, or you risk dying.
Your health is very low. Consume some of the items you have collected, or you risk dying.
You have just completed an objective and received some bonus time (top left). Until it runs out you will receive twice as many resources from digging.
You have died from Drill Overheating. Take breaks to let your drill cool down and upgrade your Drill Heat Generation from the Engineering Bay to avoid future deaths.
You have died from Environmental Overheating. Avoid drilling too far down and upgrade your Cooling from the Engineering Bay to avoid future deaths.
You have died from a Gas Geyser exploding. Try to repair damage so your health is over 50% before digging into gas deposits and stop digging once you reach Concentrated Gas to avoid future deaths.
You have died from Lava. Having Lava drip on you lowers your health and raises your heat. Try to keep both your health up and your heat down around lava pockets to avoid future deaths.
You have died from lack of Fuel. Convert resources you find in the world to fuel, build the Xenofuel Synthesizer, and upgrade your Fuel Reserves from the Engineering Bay to avoid future deaths.
You have died from sustaining too much damage. Overheating, lava, gas geysers, and drll vibrations all lower your health. Consume resources for repairs, build an Industrial Reconstructor and upgrade your Plating from the Engineering Bay to avoid future deaths.
Dying removes 5 minutes of bonus time. If you run out of bonus time, your item capacity will instead be lowered by 50% for five minutes.
